SPRING BACKPACKING TRIP - MAY 14-15, 2022

Join the Troop on our Spring 2022 overnight backpacking trip from Camp Alpine on the Palisades Historic Trail in upper New Jersey. The trip is designed for those scouts who want to explore backpacking or any experienced backpackers who want to enjoy a fun day of hiking in the wilderness. This should be a great weekend to practice your orienteering & wilderness camping skills!

Logistics:

Date: Saturday May 14th (Rain or Shine – trip will only be canceled due to safety issues.)
Time: Meet at Somerset Presbyterian Church 7:00AM.
Arrive back at SPC: Sunday May 15th mid-afternoon.

Equipment to be provided by each Scout:

Hiking Boots – (absolutely no sneakers)!!!
Backpack – buy quality if possible - ask a Scoutmaster for details if you are not sure which to buy.
- We do have a few extra backpacks to borrow.
Sleeping Bag – appropriate for early Spring evenings. (Spring Sleeping Bag)
Sleeping pad – we will be sleeping on the ground not on wooden tent platforms. (Remember you have to carry it!)
Other camping equipment & appropriate clothing - including raingear. (we will review details prior to the trip)
Your scouting spirit – backpacking is physically demanding!
A good night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast – one doughnut and a cup of cocoa at the Dunkin won’t be enough!

The troop will provide the following:
·       Lightweight backpacking tents.
·       Food
·       GORP (trail mix) – Scouts with peanut or food allergies need to make us aware!
·       Backpacking stoves & cooking utensils.
·       Cooking rain tarp & rope.

Permission Slip is due no later than the Troop Meeting on Tuesday May 10, 2022.

Price: $40.00 per scout (Backpacking food is expensive)
